Such is a summary of the points of resemblance. Let us consider their bearing upon the
prophetic unity of the book.
The first church that is addressed is the Church at Ephesus. The Lord speaks of
Himself as the One Who holds the seven stars in His right hand, and Who walks in the
midst of the seven golden lampstands. The tree of life is spoken of as being "in the
midst" of the paradise of God. In the vision which covers the "Ephesus" period, John
sees the Lord as a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes which
are the seven spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. He alone was found worthy to
take the seven-sealed book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne. There is
a threat made to the church at Ephesus of the removal of their lampstand out of its place.
If this threat is taken in conjunction with the actual effect produced by the opening of the
sixth seal, when, "every mountain and island were moved out of their places," its force
will be the more felt in chapter 7: we read of devastation which is about to fall upon
the earth, the sea, and the trees, and this makes the promise to the overcomer of being
granted to eat of the tree of life which is in the midst of the paradise of God of greater
moment.
