Having seen the logical place of Philippians 2:6-8 in the argument of the apostle, we can now proceed to an
examination of the terms used, for, as Gifford says `The apostle's purpose is happily too clear to be obscured by any
diversity of interpretation ... the apostle proceeds to enforce, by setting forth our Blessed Lord Himself as the
supreme example of humility, self sacrifice and love; and he is thus led on to speak of those deepest and holiest
mysteries of the Christian faith, the incarnation of the Son of God, His voluntary self-abasement, His obedience
even unto death, yea, the death of the cross'.
